Punita Chhabra Rice is an education researcher, and director at ISAASE ("Improving South Asian American Students' Experiences"). Her work focuses on understanding and improving South Asian American students' experiences. Dr. Rice's work focuses on research, through Johns Hopkins University's School of Education, focused on the K-12 experiences of South Asian Americans, especially in context of teacher cultural proficiency, support, connectedness to school, and the impact of the model minority myth. The findings from this work suggest there is room for improvement in the experiences of South Asian American students. This led Dr. Rice to establish ISAASE: an outreach and advocacy organization aimed at improving South Asian American students' experiences through the Teacher Cultural Proficiency Initiative, the Diversity & Representation Initiative, and the Family Outreach Initiative.
